Village Halls
The Purpose of the Scheme
The scheme seeks to assist with preserving, improving and, where necessary, extending existing Village Hall facilities in addition to providing new facilities.
Church Owned Community Halls
Applications relating to Church Owned Community Halls can now be considered for grant aid, under the Village Halls Grants Scheme where it can be clearly demonstrated that the hall is necessary to support existing demand for community activity and such demand cannot be met by similar expenditure on an existing Village Hall.
Applicants are also required to show that:
- There is a substantial level of non-church related usage or in cases where the hall is unusable due to its poor condition, an indication of anticipated usage once improvements have been made;
- Separate hall accounts are maintained to show all income and expenditure relating to the hall's operation;
- If, once having been offered a grant, any of the above criteria were to cease, there would be a requirement to repay the grant to the District Council in full.
In addition to the above, the existing Village Hall Scheme conditions as outlined on the leaflet are applicable.

Criteria
- New Build - a grant from Hambleton District Council can only be sought if the project is on the priority list with North Yorkshire County Council
- Must complete an activity planner showing existing and future use
Grant Available
Applications will normally be considered for the following level of grant:
- New Halls - 25% of the total cost up to a maximum of 5,000
- Improvements/Extensions - 25% of the total cost up to a maximum of 2,000 in any 2 year period
Note: Retrospective applications will not be considered, however, in exceptional circumstances prior permission may be given to incur expenditure without prejudice to the result of the application.
Timing of Application
Applications for grants received by Leisure Services are assessed and submitted for final consideration to the Spokesperson for Health. Applications are considered throughout the year.
How to Apply
As most Village/Church Hall Projects require funding from a number of agencies, potential applicants are advised to contact the Leisure Services Section at an early stage for advice on how to proceed. The Leisure Services staff have experience of working with other funding partners and may be able to offer additional information and advice that will be of use in project planning.
Contact the Leisure Services Section. If appropriate, an application form will be sent for completion.
