Bailiffs
Council Tax and NNDR
Payment is due by 10 monthly instalments. If payments are not kept up to date, recovery action will commence and if payment is still not made a summons will be issued, and a liability applied for through the magistrate's Court. Costs will be added to the payers account.
Once a liability order is obtained the Council can recover any monies due by various methods:
- Attachment to earnings
- Attachment to benefits
- Arrangement
- Use of Bailiffs (this will incur further costs)
Use of bailiffs is a last resort and we always encourage payers to contact the council to discuss payment.
Anyone having difficulty paying their bill should contact the recovery section, or Tel: 01609 767167, before the matter reaches the bailiff stage.
Bailiffs are employed in appropriate cases of non-payment of monies due to the Council.
The Council uses two firms:
| Philips Collection Services Telford House, Garden Street Darlington DL1 1QP Tel: 01325 383876 | Jacobs Certificated Bailiffs 4 Europa Boulevard Birkenhead Merseyside CH41 4PE Website: www.jacobs-cea.co.uk Opens in a new window Email:info@jacobsbailiffs.co.uk |
Bailiffs are instructed to collect the debt outstanding where a liability order has been obtained through the Magistrates Court and all other efforts to collect the debt have failed. Bailiffs collect their costs directly from the charge payer and therefore the amount payable can be greatly increased.
Anyone having difficulty paying their bill should contact the recovery section, or call 01609 767167 before the matter reaches the bailiff stage.
